BEING ASSERTIVE: HOW TO

It's good to be yourself at all times, in all situations.

Acting yourself consciously, without compromising your demeanor,
you make things move (happen) around you, you triumph!
Being unconventional & rebellious...without following the crowd!
That way, u make a niche, you portray your uniqueness unmatched.
Not bowing to external pressures,
saying 'NO!' with a deep conviction...sticking to your guns, without being snobbish!
& more importantly,
being loving, caring, honest, generous, kind, calm & respectful without looking like a 'softie'!

Consider this:

AGGRESSIVE APPROACH:
Characterized by being offensive, rough, angry & blaming.
The person using this approach, usually shouts, glares, clenches his fist...he hurts & makes enemies!
Unfortunately, many parents, teachers & other adults use this approach when dealing with young people.
Bullies & bossy people, find it 'useful' to shove people around.

PASSIVE APPROACH:
A passive person, is submissive, sheepish, over-anxious, grin-and-bear -it.
The voice is usually soft & apologetic, there is no eye-contact.
The effect is that such a person, is trampled upon, is not respected & loses his/her own self-respect
& will probably give-in to anything.

ASSERTIVE APPROACH:
An assertive person, is direct, honest, respectful, calm, courageous, perhaps angry but in a healthy & controlled way.
An assertive person has a calm voice; a relaxed way & looks the other person in the eye!

Such a person, shows respect to others but disagrees with them matuarily. He/she knows how to say 'no' tactfully.
This approach, enhances the user's self-esteem, self-control & self-respect; & usually he/she gets respect from the other person(s) even if they don't like the message.
